Developers, this is the last week to file an application for a #PinePhonePro dev unit. We already have 4x more applications than available dev units.
Those who filed for a coupon: we’ll start going through applications next week.

#FOSDEM 2022 will be online
Kinda expected, but was still hoping that #FOSDEM2022 would be hybrid. Nonetheless thanks to @fosdem organizers for making the difficult decision, and looking forward to the online event!

Sorry for the turbulence.
mastodon.radio is now running v3.4.1
We skipped over v3.4.0 (well, we did run it for a few minutes whilst I installed 3.4.1)

ANNOUNCEMENT
The Domain “kaitaia.life” is being dropped. This means my account and all associated posts on social.kaitaia.life are also being dropped (soon, just preparing for now). A new instance has been setup at contra.privacyhub.xyz
My new account is @anotherkiwiguy
The PEBKAC Show is also getting its own account @pebkac_show
I fully understand how inconvenient this is, and I apologise if it’s annoying. But if you feel like you still want to follow me or the podcast, please look me up there.
Thanks, you’re the best!
Why is this happening? (short version)
Basically, the small server running the instance of Pleroma is not powerful enough to cope with the large amount of content coming in, or being posted. Because of hardware limitations, it cannot be upgraded.
A new, long term instance has been created at contra.privacyhub.xyz, and this machine is a lot more powerful, and able to be upgraded in the future.
Why is this happening? (long version)
I originally hosted Pleroma via Yunohost, on a small Intel Atom based Shuttle. While it was sufficient at the time, it has since far outgrown the available resources of the machine.
There is also a rather nasty bug in the Yunohost Pleroma app that causes upgrades to fail, and crash. There is no known fix, and movement on the project has been stagnant. This essentially means, that unless I completely reinstall the Yunohost Pleroma app, I run the risk of any future upgrades breaking my system. This has been the case for almost a year now.
Rather than rely on a 3rd party to deal with any Pleroma issues, I thought that if I’m going to have to reinstall anyway, I might as well upgrade to a bigger machine, and pull Pleroma directly from the source.
Also, moving domains with a current installation is prohibitively difficult, as it would break federation, and require manual intervention in the database. Not an ideal situation.
This will also allow me to split The PEBKAC Show off from my own personal account. Meaning, I can post more about things I’m interested in, and offer my opinion without it interfering with the Podcast.
It also means that people can contact the podcast directly, and I can keep things nice and tidy. If I bring on anyone else to help in the future, I can share the access to the account.
Cheers for reading my ramblings, I know it’s a great wall o’text.
Thanks again!

Thanks to @agx and @tbernard for helping me get seek buttons into #phosh! 🎉
Here's how it looks like from the lockscreen, see Guido's post for how it looks like in unlocked state: https://social.librem.one/@agx/107111893750757123
Coming soon to a disto near you. And yes, all distros with Phosh, that's the great thing about upstreaming a feature! 😄
