As a "bitcoiner", obviously the federation model of mastodon / fediverse is nowhere near as secure and private as a truly uncensorable model like bitcoin, however it's the needed step from completely centralized services like twitter, that when users can make the UI jump and understanding, upgrades and further improvements will be much easier. We should all encourage friends, followers, to understand and shift away from the centralized model, as that path leads towards loss of freedoms.
If you're using Mastodon on a computer, did you know you can control it entirely through your keyboard?

I'm considering muting the words Signal and Telegram. It just makes me sad to see all the people go from one centralized non-free place to another centralized non-free place, while they're thinking it's a good thing.
Trying to explain and educate them about ethical options, feels as fruitless as emptying the ocean with a spoon.
The good, bad, and scary of the banning of Donald Trump, and how #decentralization makes it all better - with a shout out to #mastodon and the #fediverse. https://changelog.complete.org/archives/10193-the-good-bad-and-scary-of-the-banning-of-donald-trump-and-how-decentralization-makes-it-all-better
network construction, uspol adjacent, hyperbrief commentary
- Make game rules you can survive when it isn't "your turn"
- The alt-right already joined the fediverse and then left https://conf.tube/videos/watch/d8c8ed69-79f0-4987-bafe-84c01f38f966
- Centralized social networks are playing a game nobody can win politically
- But the fediverse's present anti-abuse tooling probably won't scale to a larger incursion

@janssens_bart @Gargron As a state actor, #Trump has no place on #Twitter in the 1st place. Nor does #Biden or any other politician. We expect politicians to serve *the public*, not members of an exclusive walled garden that's centrally controlled by a private corporation who controls who among the /public/ may communicate to their representatives in /public/ office.
I don't really like Signal. I don't like Telegram either. Wire is acceptable, but also clunky. It kinda sucks that people have to basically choose and commit to one app with all of their contacts now, if IM apps were federated like e-mail and Mastodon you could just keep talking to your friends from wherever.
@techware Actually #Signal is an example of a svc to avoid. See https://github.com/privacytoolsIO/privacytools.io/issues/779 It's impractical & tedious to avoid AWS sites for every news article, but when deciding on a regular service like Signal & Github, it makes sense to hold AWS against them. AWS should be a factor when comparing Signal is #Jami.
@yarmo @Matter @neil @gogor People are even showing friction to Signal and Telegram. Most of my friends have only used WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram as means of communication throughout their online life. Getting them to Matrix is even harder with the kinds of excuses they make for even Telegram and Signal.
